Physics+ for Live2D
A downloadable tool for Windows
Physics+ is a softbody physics simulator for adding dynamic physics to Live2D models.
A softbody - as opposed to a rigidbody - is any object whose shape can be deformed, such as hair, clothes, even the human body. When rigging models for Live2D, special care needs to be made to make sure that deformable objects react properly to the movement of the model, such as making hair sway when moving a character’s head from side to side. Physics+ provides an alternative method for rigging these objects that is more reactive, customizable, and (theoretically) easier by casting these objects onto a physics simulation that is updated in real time. Additionally, more complicated motion can be done than would be possible in Live2D alone, such as simulating varying wind effects, changes in gravity, even simulating an explosion. In a way, this allows for Live2D models to function similar to a 3D model, without needing to fully model a 3D character.
Physics+ does not make adjustments to the models themselves, instead it functions by updating the way meshes are displayed in real time. Because all the changes are made live while the program is running, it means that Physics+ can be easily disabled without disrupting the original models, and they will continue to work the same as before using Physics+.
Note: Physics+ rigging must be created using the Physics+ Editor in order to use the VTube Studio addon. If a model doesn't have a corresponding .physicsplus.json in its folder, Physics+ for VTube Studio does nothing.
Physics+ is still in early development, and bugs and issues are to be expected. Feedback is greatly appreciated, both in terms of reporting errors, but also in terms of what features users wish to have added, ways that the user experience could be streamlined, and what could be made more intuitive or explained better to users. There are also a significant number of options and variables available for the simulation. Finding optimal settings will require more experimentation and exploration than can be done on our own. Discovering what settings are best suited for simulating different objects will allow us to add those as options for easy rigging.
